Today there was a significant change in what type of care Dental Clinics are allowed to provide in Alberta.
Effective immediately, in accordance with the Alberta Dental Association & College, dental offices in Alberta are no longer permitted to treat every type of urgent dental need. This is to limit community transmission of COVID-19 and to protect dentists and their team.
Why?
Most dental procedures involve aerosol production (water, air spray). At this time most clinics do not have access to proper protective equipment (N-95 masks) to protect ourselves and prevent transmission.
The Alberta Dental Association & College is currently working on setting up clinics with enhanced protective measures and we will be able to send our patients there if needed for emergency treatment. Examples of situations that are considered dental emergencies include:
- Oral-Facial Trauma
- Significant infection
- Prolonged bleeding
- Pain which cannot be managed by over-the-counter medication
We apologize for an inconvenience this may cause. We are still answering our phones (limited hours), and responding to emails and voicemails regularly. If you have any questions or need guidance please don’t hesitate to reach out to us, we can still help over the phone for more minor dental issues!
We are keeping a list of patients with urgent needs (such as chipped teeth, broken teeth or lost fillings) and will book these appointments as a top priority as soon as we are allowed to safely reopen.
Thinking of you all, and wishing you the best during this unprecedented time.
The Eau Claire Park Dental team :)
P.S. Stay tuned for an upcoming announcement on exciting technology we are adding to our practice in order to make sure our patients and team are safe when we return to work!!!
