We understand the recent World Health Organization statement on dental care has caused confusion amongst our patients and the public. This is unfortunate because it ignores the local situation.
In Canada we have low numbers of COVID-19 and dental clinics have the highest standard of Infection and Prevention Control worldwide, the equivalent to a hospital. The risk of getting infected with COVID-19 in a dental office are weighted towards the team, not to the patient. Coming to our clinic for your dental appointment is safe. We have enacted the strictest protocols for your safety and the safety of our team.
The Canadian Dental Association released an update on August 14th stating that Canadians should be aware that routine oral health care is accessible at this stage of the COVID-19 pandemic and should not be delayed. Canada is experiencing cluster-contained outbreaks, conditions which allow for routine oral health care to be provided.
Declining oral health has broader effects on our overall health. There are well documented associations between oral health and cardiovascular health. Delaying dental care results in more complicated and costly treatment. We have already seen the unfortunate effects of the COVID lockdown on our patient’s health and would strongly encourage people to assess their own situation. Please contact us if you have any concerns or questions.
