Finally! A study proving what we have always noticed in our practice – patients who use electric toothbrushes have decreased incidence of gum disease and cavities.

I was taught in dental school that it didn’t matter if you used powered vs. manual toothbrush as long as you brushed with the proper technique. In the real world electric toothbrushes do a better job – we see it day after day in our practice. Patients who use electric have less gingivitis/inflammation, less plaque accumulation and overall healthier mouths. We’ve always recommended them, so it’s nice to see an updated study backing up what we advise our patients. Remember to change your brush head every 3 months!
